Blog # 8

Going into the assignment i thought about what i thought poverty was based on my pre knowledge and also what i had red in the first few lines. i always had the image that poverty was living on the streets such as people I've seen in salt lake on temple square. i've been known to help where i could in small ways like giving money or a food drive here or there but reading this paper helped me realize that poverty applies to a whole class in society larger then those who just live on the street, like in the reading example we find a women who lives alone with her children and the hardships of poverty, i notice that its almost a repeating cycle, that drives poverty on and on she cant get out, she cant work cause she has to tend her kids cause day care costs too much! So she is stuck she cant get away from it. she cant afford medicens and hospitals because she cant afford it, she cant buy cloths because she doesn't have the money and that could be why she doesn't have a job. she has a home but its run down.
The message i drew was that the cycle of poverty continues to repeat unless there is an outside force that will disrupt the cycle and change that situation and that people in poverty need our help because they cant help themselves or they would.

blog post #7 klayton thompson english 1010.12

Ok... I will be blogging about the "M" word essay from chapter nine let me first say it was interesting i personally had never before now looked at it like the writer explains gay marriage. He puts a new Perspective on the situation that family is a necessity for everyone and gays need that right as well. very interesting, i understand what the writer is saying i love my family and i plan to have wife and kids, family of my own some years from now, because i believe family is a necessity, and this belief is also shared by this man, he mentions that churches shouldn't have to let gays marry in the spiritual bonds of there religion but, it should be allowed on a civil level, one story wont completely sway me but there is a lot of truth here.

Now in response to the in your journal assignment. society as a whole doesn't agree with gay marriage as we see on a state level most states in America wont allow gays to be married. and most religions wont allow it either. I'll be the first to admit that i don't totally except the idea of gay marriage either i know that it is more increasingly around us and we all need to co exist but. to what extent. I've know a few gay men in my life and there great people they have jobs and carriers and lives to one extent just like everyone else and don't believe that we should treat gays with disrespect or hatred like some people do. that is unacceptable, were all gods children.

Blog #6

2a) I think in this life we have to constantly prove ourselves to others we have new trials and challenges that come into our lives. Some examples of this in my life would be joining various team sports or clubs, taking on new jobs where you have to earn your spot. once you can prove to everyone else you can do the job or your good enough to be with them they treat you as there own.
2b) sometimes people come into our lives and make us into a whole new person. my friend Ashley has had this effect on me she challenges me to rise to my best and i want to do my best for her. she is fantastic and she understands me and makes me feel around her something i haven't felt around a person in a long time.
2c) the loss of a love one or a break up of a girl friend for me, i've lost some girl friends over the years and it would seem after the majority of them i felt lost and alone. something that you invested all your time in suddenly left your life. and that often causes you to be afraid, and in some cases like blue makes you build walls and you don't let others in.

blog # 5 Responding to the "in your journal"

I chose the reflect on the poem of the onion, not only because it was the shortest but because the content also humored me and made me think, about a time when i have looked past significant things onto other areas of interest. and how we often have tunnel vision about things. the questions at the end of the reading made me think hard as to some things i often over look in my like because of familiarity or i take them for granted. I'd like to focus on family i think family is a large miracle that we often over look and take for granted, i had an eye opening experience over the summer when i went to Canada where the majority of my family lives i found i spent lots of time with my grandparents who i don't often see and it made me realize the reason i was out there was to build strong relationships with my grandparents who wont be around for ever. I also had the chance to re build a bridge with some relatives that i had a negative perspective on built primarily by my parents. being with them and making my own decisions helped me to find my own opinions are perspectives about them. i loved my time there. hope this is a good response.

blog number 4

1: (in response to question one) obviously by the examples shown in the essay people don't give a dang about the homeless in allot of cases, referring to them as nuclear waste. killing them watching them burn. there is no respect, in humane behavior, they act like because there homeless they don't have the same rights. they don't have any worth.
2: (in response to question four.) the example about the man burnt on a park bench across from a busy street. people saw and were questioned and didn't alert the authorities for several hours after it happened. which makes me sick. said it was like cleaning up toxic waste.
3: (in response to question 3) i believe people are afraid of what they don't understand the same has always been true, in addition to that i believe that were afraid of things we cant change, things that move us but we don't know what to do about it. people see homeless children and are hurt for them. that's how i feel anyway.
4: (in response to question 2) i like to see that local government is putting up funding for shelters and in some cases jails to help support the homeless, compensation for garbage burning and what not, things that help better the situation for everyone. i saw a study where people researched the homeless and tried to figure out how they feel about what there community does for them. they had resources set up where homeless people could learn job skills. like the road home here in Utah.
5: ( in response to question 5) i never knew the homeless were treated so poorly. Ive always donated when i can. i wish everyone else would do there part.
